SUPERB! Civil War Non-Excavated South Carolina State Seal Shoulder Belt Plate

This is a spectacular looking plate! This is the South Carolina breastplate of the pattern that is photographed for plate 396 on page 215 of the expanded edition of Confederate Belt Buckles and Plates by Steve Mullinax. The were used to adorn the shoulder sling of the soldier's cotton web shoulder belt. The face of the plate is made of stamped brass with a gorgeous South Carolina state seal in the center. The depicts the Palmetto tree with the date "1776" at the base. Flanking the tree it has the two shields with the South Carolina state motto in Latin. The motto reads "Animis Opibusque Parati" which translates as "Prepared in mind and Resources." The face of this plate has fine detail with an untouched golden color. the plate is in superb non-excavated condition and when you turn the plate over, you see the excellent reverse. This one has the large brass spring pin that was to hold it on the cotton shoulder sling. The lead is also superb on this one. This is a superb original Civil War South Carolina state shoulder plate that will stand out in your collection.
