This is a cool gun with an amazing look! It is an original model 1795 flintlock musket. This is the model 1795 that is 59-1/4th inches in overall size and has the 45 inch barrel and it is still full-length with the sight intact on the front of the barrel. The musket was made at the famous Springfield arsenal and is so marked very clearly on the lockplate with the 1810 production date on the tail of the lockplate. Also on the lockplate are the Union eagle and the "US". On the top of the buttplate it has the production date of 1810 still mostly visible. The action of the lockplate works catches on both positions. One thing that is extra special about this gun is that it is in the original flintlock configuration. Most of them were converted to percussion later on but this one is all original. The barrel has the correct inspector marks at the breech along with the eagle head stamp which is just below the large "P" stamp where the gun barrel was approved as good enough for military service. The stock has a great untouched attic tone look with furniture like grain to the walnut. You can tell that this one was used but taken care of. It has all three of the original barrel bands intact with the retainers springs intact just like they should be. One of the original sling swivels are present as you can see with the other being a replacement. The ramrod in the channel underneath the barrel is an original one. The gun is accompanied by a fine matching original socket bayonet. These guns are very hard to a matching bayonet but this one matches perfectly and the color matches beautifully. This is a great looking and original War of 1812 weapon that any collector should appreciate in their collection.
