This is an original Civil War era CDV image of Civil War Secretary of the Treasury, Salmon Portland Chase (January 13, 1808 – May 7, 1873). Chase served as the Secretary from March 7, 1861 – June 30, 1864. He was then, nominated by Lincoln for the Supreme Court of the United States. He served as the 6th Chief Justice from December 15, 1864 – May 7, 1873. Chase died on May 7, 1873 (aged 65) in New York City. It is a bust view of the Secretary in a stately pose with his fine suit of clothes. There is some paper loss to the top edges and it is priced accordingly. The overall size of a CDV image is approximately 2.5 inches by 4 inches in size. On the back of the card it has the photographer mark of the New York firm owned by Brassart's. It is a fine original CDV image of one of Lincoln's trusted cabinet members.
