Original Scabbard! Briquet Style Hanger Sword with Brass Handle
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a neat looking sword that doesn't cost a fortune. This is a nice original infantry sword from the Napoleonic era. The French who are credited with designing the sword referred to them as an "Briquet". They were manufactured from the early 1800s to the late-1800s but this one is probably 1870's or so. It has a full-length blade that measures 23-1/2 inches in overall size. It is complete unmarked except for the "No. 1" stamping at the base of the blade and a lone proof mark. The proof mark is a star and the letter "D" inside of a circle. The original handle is manufactured using a sturdy and dependable cast brass technique. The sword is accompanied by the original scabbard made of leather with the iron round finial on the drag. As you can imagine they damaged easily and are almost always missing but it is not the case with this one. The leather is still sold and it has a portion of the leather around the top mount still present. A good display sword for your wall and displays much better than the $395 price.
