What a cool lookin piece! This is an original well-made United States blue wool uniform. This is what is referred to as a swallowtail coatee. This is a beautifully crafted double breasted coat. It has three rows of nine Coat Size United States staff officer style buttons. The buttons are the very well crafted Scovill made buttons. The upturned wing eagle on the front and she has the stars on the edge of the button with some of the original gold gilding remaining on the face. The original backs and shanks are intact. On the back of the button it has the correct post-Civil War era maker's mark of the Scovill of Waterbury, Connecticut production location. All buttons present on the front as well as the coat tail. The wood uniform has the classic Indian War era short collar. The sleeves has the embroidered Bullion design near the sleeve cuff. When you open up the coat you are greeted by the remnants of the original lining. It was made with a very ornately quilted, polished cotton lining. The remnants of the polished cotton lining is quite tattered but it won't show up once you have the coat placed on a mannequin. This is a nice displaying coat that only costs a fraction of what a Civil War uniform will cost you these days.
