Gorgeous 1911 Pattern Hembrug Marked Dutch Klewang Naval Cutlass
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a beautiful looking cutlass! This is a Dutch Klewang cutlass that was manufactured in Hembrug, Netherlands. The M1911 was a well built sword. Over the years the different models of Klewang cutlasses have seen little variation. They all have pierced hilt cup and a clipped tip. The European models featured wooden grips while the U.S. manufactured Klewangs used a black bakelite grip. This M1911 features smooth cut outs with rounded edges in the cup hilt, as opposed to the small square notches typically found in other models and has wooden grips. It has the full-length clip point blade that measures 24-1/2 inches. It is stamped HEMBRUG at the ricasso on one side with a crown over "E” on the reverse. The leather sheath has been lost to the ages. This is a good looking cutlass!
