This is a fantastic gun! This is a factory custom Colt Army model revolver. This one was made in 1863 and has the serial number of 123,357 with the letter "P" by the number. This "P" lets us know that it was silver plated from the factory. On page 348 of Charles Pate's book, The Model 1860 Colt Revolver, he states that less than 100 revolver bear the "P" mark starting with this one. He adds that they were made in July of 1863. When Mr. Pate saw this description, he was kind enough to send me some extra information. He stated that this Colt was one of 50 "plated" guns added to Colt’s inventory on 7/30/1863 (page 121 or Colt Civil War Book 4). Thank you sir! This gun has many special traits including the crosshatched trigger and ornate end to the loading lever. On the left hand side of the frame, it has the special "COLT'S PATENT" marking. What makes this one really stand out is the deluxe carved wood grips. They have the fantastic detail carving with the majority of the factory varnish intact. Along the top of the full-length 8 inch barrel, it has the clear Colt maker marking along with the New York Location. These guns were manufactured in Hartford, Connecticut with the sales office being located in New York City. The cylinder holds 6 shots. Around the cylinder it has the rolled scene that depicts the battle between the Texas Navy and the Mexican Navy. The mechanics of the gun still works well on all positions. This is an exceptional gun in beautiful condition.
