Beautiful 1855 Production .36 Caliber Colt Revolver With London Markings
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a beautiful original Colt and also a scarce gun. It is the .36 Caliber Colt revolver that was manufactured by Colt's London endeavor. The top of the full-length barrel has the crystal clear maker mark of "ADDRESS COL:COLT.LONDON". The barrel and other major parts all have the correct British proof marks. The side of the frame has the clear "COLTS PATENT" stamp on the left hand side. These guns are made with the iron backstrap and triggerguard. The gun has matching serial numbers except for the barrel wedge which is an original one without a number as these so often have. The serial numbers are 25,940 and thanks to Colt's bookkeepers we know that it would have been made in 1855. They were only made from 1853 until 1856 with only 42,000 total production. The gun has a pretty gray patina to all of the metal parts as you can see in the pictures. It has a fine amount of the original bluing on the barrel and factory case colors in the protected areas of the loading lever. The action works well in all positions. On the handle of the gun it has the original 1-piece walnut wood grip with a gorgeous look all over. This is a nice original and complete example of the scarce London production Colt navy model revolver.
