Here is a great looking original flintlock pistol. This one is in the original flintlock configuration and fires a bullet of about .687 caliber from the full-length 10 inch barrel. This has a beautiful styling with a single piece full stock and rounded butt without a grip cap. These flintlocks that were made without a grip cap are often associated with being American in manufacture. On the front of the barrel it has the German silver front sight. It has the simple but stylish iron mounts with pineapple triggerguard. On the top of the wrist of the stock, it has the inlaid German silver thumb piece with initials inside. It has the early production flat faceted lockplate with swan-neck cock. The lockplate has the integral ovoid iron pan with bridle and roller. The mechanics of the gun still catches crisply on both positions. In front of the hammer, the lockplate is marked "S. HOMER". The Homer family is referenced in on page 34 in the "Historic pistols: The American martial flintlock, 1760-1845 Stating that Homer was born in 1731 and died in 1776 as a member of the sons of liberty in Boston Massachusetts. Homer was a political activist in his time. It is possible that this S. Homer has direct ties to the Homer family but I can't say for sure. There is a B. Homer working about the same time in England. In the channel under the barrel, it has the wooden ramrod with polished horn tip. This is a beautiful gun in gorgeous condition.
