Excavated Solid Cast Eagle Coat Button Possibly Confederate
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a neat excavated uniform button from the Civil War. This is the button that was cast out of pewter. It is based on the classic enlistedman's pattern general service button. Some people say that these are Union made but many people believe that they are Confederate made versions because of their crude casting. On the face of the button it has the eagle with the upturned wings with the shield on her chest. This one has a nice look as you can see. On the back of the button, you can see where the shank was at one time before it broke off. What a cool looking button!
