Cool Attic Look! Civil War Klingenthal Arsenal Foot Officer's Sword
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a nice looking original Civil War foot officer sword. These were officially known as the U.S. model 1850 foot officer sword and they were the classic style that was carried by officers during the Civil War. It has a nice full-length 28-3/4th inch blade. This is the version that was made with ornate etching on the sides. The blade has the thick attic patina but if you look closely, you can see some of the etching remaining. The etching is a floral pattern with military designs in the center that include cannon, flag and spear images. Along the spine of the blade it has the Klingenthal-Coulaux Arsenal mark. Many of the nice quality officers' swords such as this one were manufactured in France and imported for sale to well-to-do officers. The brass on the guard and pommel cap has a wonderful untouched look with a deep dark patina. The handle has an attractive look with a most of the original sharkskin grip remaining. It has the original copper twisted wire intact around the sharkskin. This is a very nice looking original Civil War foot officer's sword with a great untouched look.
