Excavated Civil War Era "Snaffle" Watering Horse Bit
Click on an image to enlarge

Here is something that you seldom see in nice excavated condition these days. It is an original iron snaffle bridle bit. These are often referred to as a watering bit. This one is in excavated condition but as you can see it displays superbly and has been nicely cleaned. When extended out it measures 12-1/4th inches in overall size with the iron rings being 3-1/4th inches across. An exceptional little piece of Civil War equine history.
