1861 Bank of the Commonwealth Virginia $10 with Washington and Madison

This is a very attractive note! It is an original note issued in Richmond, Virginia. This one was from the Bank of the Commonwealth in the amount of $10.00. It is dated in ink from January 28th 1861. The bank was organized in 1858 and continued in business until approximately 1863 when it closed its doors. This note features a large vignette of a hunter and farmer by a shield depicting a bust of Washington flanked by an oval portrait of James Madison and the state banking die. The bank title, counter surrounds, and orange and white TEN protector panel over the signature lines. It is in very attractive well-circulated condition. The note measures 7-3/8ths inches by 3-1/4th inches. It comes in an acid-free holder for display and preservation.
