This is an authentic piece of colonial currency from the 1700's. These early U.S. currency pieces from the colonies that would make up our states are a true piece of history. This one was issued the South Carolina colony. It is clearly dated from February 8th 1779. This one was worth the amount of Eighty "Spanish Milled" dollars. Yes that's right at that time currency was still figured in English or Spanish values. This $80 denomination is one of the earlier authorized denominations from this issue, and it is seen with far less frequency than the three later unauthorized denominations ($50, $70, and $90). These earlier-issued denominations were also engraved by Thomas Coram, although he placed his name only on the later issues. On the back of the note it has the "EIGHTY DOLLARS" denomination. The note measures approximately 2-7/8ths inches by 4-3/4ths inches in overall size and is in very attractive displaying circulated condition with an archival tape repair to the center. It comes in an acid free holder for display and preservation. This is a nice authentic early piece of paper money from a colony of the soon to be United States.
