Cool Silver Gripped George Woodhead of Sheffield Knife with Sheath
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a very cool looking knife. This one is Civil War production because of the maker. The knife measures 11 inches in overall length with the blade making up 6 of those inches. This is the perfect size for up close and personal fighting. The blade has the classic spear point design that so many Civil War era Bowie knives had. The blade base has the maker's Mark of "G. WOODHEAD SHEFFIELD WARRANTED". The Sheffield, England registry shows that the George Woodhead makers were around as early as 1839. This one has the original high quality German silver handle intact with a beautiful untouched look. The cross guard is constructed of one piece oval made of German silver. The knife is accompanied by an original leather sheath. The leather is the high quality reddish brown Moroccan leather with the gold detail work. The original nickel silver top mount to the scabbard are still present with the drag being lost to the ages. This is a very nice looking Civil War Bowie knife in sheath.
