This is an interesting and authentic CDV image of Confederate General Simon Bolivar Buckner (1823-1914). He was born in Hart County, Kentucky on April 1st 1823. He fought bravely in the Mexican War earning two brevets. On September 14th 1861 he was appointed Brigadier General in the Confederate Army. After being forced to surrender at Fort Donelson by his superiors he was later exchanged. He led Confederates at Perryville and Mobile and then Chickamauga. He was promoted to Lieutenant General and Kirby Smith's Chief of Staff on September 20th 1864. In 1887 he was elected Governor of Kentucky. He died on January 8th 1914 and was buried in Frankfort. This style of CDV image was made by using an engraving printing plate to print the image on the paper card. The overall size of a CDV image is approximately 2.5 inches by 4 inches in size. On the bottom of the image it has the name "GEN BUCKNER". This is one of the engraving CDV images that were done by Mangus of New York. Some people say These are Civil War produced but I think they are post Civil War and it is priced accordingly.
