This is an authentic ink autograph of Confederate General Leonidas Polk. Leonidas Polk was a West Point graduate and also was an Episcopal Bishop of Louisiana. He reached the rank of Lieutenant General in the Confederacy. He entered the Confederate service as a private Major General on June 25th 1861. He was placed in charge of the Western Department but was replaced by Albert Sidney Johnston. He won the battle of Belmont and let the 1st Army Corp at the Battle of Shiloh. As commander of the Army of Mississippi he was sent to Georgia to help General Joe Johnston against Sherman's advance to Atlanta. He was killed by cannon fire on Pine Mountain near Marietta, Georgia on June 14th 1864. The small clipped signature proudly reads in his hand "L. POLK" and he added "Lieut. Genl. / Comdg". The autograph is accompanied by a printed biography of his
service as well as a modern Xerox image of the General. The paper that the
autograph is on measures 2-1/8th inches by 5/8ths inches in overall size and is mounted onto a larger piece of paper. It is a fine piece of
history!
