Authentic Civil War Era Hard Rubber Syringe 8 Inches Long
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is an interesting piece of original Civil War era medical history. This is an original hard rubber Civil War era doctors syringe. This is similar to the ones that are described and illustrated on page 222 and 223 of Mike Woshner's book entitled India Rubber and Gutta-Percha in the Civil War Era. This one is 8-1/2 inches and overall length when extended and when the plunger is down it measures 6-1/4th inches. . It is the version that was used as an ear syringe. The small rounded tip was used to prevent insertion going too far into the ear cavity. The piece is in very nice overall condition and still displays quite well.
