State of Missouri War Claims Note Dated 1874 for $31.50

Here is a neat piece from Reconstruction Era state of Missouri. This one was issued from the City of Jefferson, Missouri. This is what is known as a State of Missouri War Claim Certificate. They have the written amount of the claim and this one is for $31.50. These were issued under the Act of March 19, 1874 with the hand written date of issue of December 8th 1874. 1874 War Claims certificates were issued to veteran and civil servants claiming debts due from the State, with those funds being guaranteed by the Federal government. However, due to the dubious nature of many claims, the Missouri Constitution was soon amended to repudiate war debts by revoking the Act of March 19, 1874. The military-style certificates were printed by The R. P. Studley Co. Lith. St. Louis. Green tinted and with the green security back showing the Act. The state arms bisect the title at top center, and standing America is at the left. This is a neat piece that displays quite well.
