This is an original non-excavated socket bayonet for the Civil War Springfield military .58 caliber rifle. This one has a full-length blade that has the dark attic or cabin look to the metal. At the base of the blade you can no longer see the "US" stamping. It has had the original lockring taken off and it appears to have been gone for quite a while as you can see. This pattern was designed to fit the U.S. military rifles of the 1855, 1861 and 1863 patterns by Springfield or the muskets made by the contract makers either one. It has a darker tone on the socket and blade that will look fine on many of the guns that are out there. This will be a solid addition to your gun or just for display by itself.
