Beautiful Silvered 1-Piece Eagle with Shield Style Militia Coat Button GI61
Click on an image to enlarge

This has always been one of my favorite button designs. It is the version listed as GI61 in Albert's button book. It has the beautiful droop wing eagle on the face of the button with the shield by her side. Around the edge of the button it has the 16 stars. As you can see this one has an excellent amount of the original silver remaining on the face of the button that gives it a gorgeous tone. This is a 1-piece button with the original applied shank on the reverse. You can still read the "WARRANTED TREBLE PLATED" backmark on the reverse of the button. We acquired this button from the collection of the late William F. McGuinn who authored many books on Civil War artifacts including the button backmark book with Bruce Bazelon. This is a fine looking button that has that wonderful color that stands out in a group of buttons.
