Superb Autograph of Confederate General William Bate of Tennessee

Here is a fine original example of the authentic signature of Civil War Confederate General William B. Bate (1826 - 1905). He was from Bledsoe's Lick in the state of Tennessee and during the Civil War he served as Colonel of the 2nd Tennessee Infantry which he led at Shiloh and was severely wounded in action. He served gallantly at the Battle of Chickamauga and all through from Dalton to the surrender in Greensboro. He survived the Civil War and serves two terms as Governor of Tennessee. He also served as a Senator from the Volunteer state. Bate dies on March 9th 1905. The autograph is accompanied by a printed biography of his service as well as a modern Xerox image of the General. The paper that the autograph is on is a page from an autograph book. He signs the piece Wm. Bate" and he adds his "Tennessee" state as well as the date of January 12th 1901. On the other side of the page it has the autograph of Chester Isiah Long who served in Congress representing the state of Kansas. The page measures 6-3/4ths inches by 4 inches in overall size. It is a fine piece of history!
