Here is a nice looking original autograph of Confederate General Roger Atkinson Pryor (1828 - 1919). Pryor was born in Dinwiddie County, Virginia on July 19th 1828. Before the War, he was a lawyer and a staunch supporter of secession. He was a member of the Confederate Congress but resigned to serve as colonel of the 3rd Virginia Infantry. He was promoted to the rank of Brigadier general from April 16th 1862. He served with the Army of Northern Virginia. On November 27th 1864, he was captured and held prisoner until spring of 1865. After the War, he went to New York where he rose to serve in the New York Supreme Court's appellate division. Pryor dies on March 14th 1919. The autograph is accompanied by a printed biography of his service as well as a modern Xerox image of the General. The paper that the autograph is on measures 3-3/4ths inches by 2-3/8ths inches in overall size. He writes "Very Respectfully Roger A. Pryor" and adds the date of "18th May 1891." It is a fine piece of history!
