Scarce Armitage B/M Cuff or Forage Cap Size Eagle Militia Button 1808-1825
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a very nice original dug 14mm cuff size 1810's to 1820's militia eagle button. This is the low profile flat faced button. It has the eagle poised in front of a shield on the face of the button. The original back and shank are intact with a nice look. In Tice's button book lists this one as GM206 and is listed as Johnson's #257. What is cool about this button is the backmark. You can see part of the "ARMITAGE * PHILAa *". This is the maker's mark of George Armitage of Philadelphia that made buttons for the U.S. Government from 1808 until 1825. It is rare to find one of these with the maker's mark and this one is mostly visible. Don't' miss your chance to own one!
