Click on an image to enlarge

This is an original Confederate States of America savings bond. This one was issued in 1861 and is for the smallest amount you find on a bond, issued for $50.00. This is one of the early series that was issued from the Confederate Capitol while it was located in Montgomery, Alabama. The top portion has the likeness of the Goddesses Columbia (Commerce) & Ceres (Agriculture) with the sailing ship in the background. They issued 7,950 of these bonds and this one has the serial number of 6,406. At the bottom of the bond it has the original coupons including six that could have been cashed but never was. At certain dates the coupons could be cashed in to receive your interest from the bond. The bond and the coupons are each hand signed and numbered in old brown ink. This is the Confederate bond listed as CR-5 in the Criswell bond book and as #2 in the Ball Bond Book. This piece is nice and clear and would look great framed up on your wall. The bond is 100% authentic in all regards.
