Here is an authentic 1863 dated Confederate States of
America savings bond. This is the style issued under the act of the Confederate
Congress that was approved on February 20th 1863 in the hand written $1,000 denomination. It is the style that has image of the plantation overseer on horseback with the slaves harvesting in the background. If you
notice , this is one of the bonds that were made without the bond coupons at the bottom. It is correctly hand signed and numbered by the
Confederate Government officials in fine brown ink. It is signed by Robert Tyler who was a descendant of President Tyler. This is the Confederate bond
listed as Type 258 in the bond book by Ball and as CR127 in the Criswell Bond Book. It was lithograph printed by J.T. Paterson of Columbia, South Carolina and is so marked in the lower part of the bond. The records show that there were only 6,311 of these printed and this one is hand numbered at 4,678. It displays well with a few small edge tears. The reverse of the bond has the red ink printed transfer form. This is a very attractive original Confederate states
savings bond with a distinctive center design.
