Autograph of Confederate General Edward Aylesworth Perry (1831-1889)

Here is a fine original autograph of Confederate General Edward Aylesworth Perry (1831-1889). Perry was born in Richmond, Massachusetts on March 15th 1831. He became the Governor of Florida. In 1857 he moved to Florida after practicing law in Alabama. He was Captain of the 2nd Florida Infantry early in the War. Perry would be wounded severely at White Oak Swamp. On August 28th 1862 he was commissioned as Brigadier General in the Confederacy in charge of the Florida Brigade. He commanded them at the Battle of Gettysburg in July of 1863. In 1864 he commanded at the battle of the Wilderness where he was wounded again. He served in Alabama until the end of the War. After the War, he returned to Florida and practiced law again. In 1884 he was elected Governor of Florida. He is buried in Pensacola. The autograph is accompanied by a printed biography of his service as well as a modern Xerox image of the General. The paper that the autograph is on measures 2-3/4ths inches by 1-1/8th inches in overall size. It has been mounted on a larger piece of paper for stability. t is a fine piece of history!
