SILVERED! Savannah, Georgia "Republican Blues" Coat Button GA264
Click on an image to enlarge
When was the last time you got a chance at one of these? This is a scarce coat size uniform button from the Republican Blues of Savannah, Georgia. For years these were thought to have been Pennsylvania Reserve Brigade but now we know they were made for the Republican Blues of Savannah. They were made about 1860 by the firm of Steele & Johnson. The face of the button has the beautiful script "RB" letters in the center of a lined field. It has the wreath of oak a laurel leaves encircling the letters. This one still retains a very fine amount of the original silver from the factory intact. The back of the button has the original shank intact as well as the Horstmann & Allien of New York marking with the rays. This is version that is listed as PA40 in Albert's button book and as GA264A1 in Tice's button book. Don't miss the scarce excavated coat size Republican Blues uniform button.
