Beautiful Dug Coat Size Kentucky Military Institute Cadet Button by Horstmann
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a great looking excavated button. It is the coat size cadet button that was worn by a cadet of the Kentucky Military Institute. This is the version with the maker's mark of "W.H. HORSTMANN & SONS / . PHI."." inside the depressed channel. It has some of the original gold gilding on the face of the button in the protected areas. It makes the detail jump out! The center of the button has the Kentucky design of the men shaking hands and it has the "K.M.I." across the center. This is the pattern that is listed as SU192 in Albert's button book and as KYS275a4 in Tice's button book. It is a fine excavated piece of Civil War history!
