Louisiana Confederate General Randall Lee Gibson Autographed Check

Here is an original ink autograph from Confederate general Randall Lee Gibson (1832-1892). Gibson was born in Woodford County, near Versailles, Kentucky on September 10th 1832. He graduated Yale University in 1853. He joined the Confederacy as a captain in the 1st Louisiana Artillery in 1861. He was commissioned as colonel of the 13th Louisiana Infantry and led the regiment at Shiloh assaulting the Hornet's Nest. On January 11th 1864, he was promoted to Brigadier General and fought in the Atlanta campaign as well as Franklin and Nashville. He commanded Spanish Fort before it's fall. After the Civil War, he served four terms in the U.S. House of Representatives and two int he Senate. He died in Hot Springs, Arkansas on December 15th 1892 during his second term in Senate. The autograph is accompanied by a printed biography of his service as well as a modern image of the General. The paper is a check dated 1871 that the autograph is on measures 8 inches by 3-1/4th inches in overall size. It is a fine piece of history!
