Fine Looking .44 Caliber Frank Wesson "Two-Trigger" Carbine
Click on an image to enlarge

This is a very nice looking weapon! It is an original Civil War carbine made by the famous firm of Frank Wesson. The top of the full-length 24-1/2 inch barrel has the Wesson mark along with the Oct. 25th 1859 patent date and the Worcester, Massachusetts production location. Many well to do Civil War soldiers purchased their weapons from private retailers. Flayderman's guide states that this is the 2nd type variation that was made from 1864 until 1876 and that they made around 5,000. It fires the .44 caliber rimfire cartridge. There is still a nice amount of the original rifling inside the barrel. The action works on all positions just as it should. It has the early 4 digit serial number of "3713" on the trigger guard. These guns are very distinctive because they have 2 triggers. The front trigger works to release the barrel when you caught back the hammer. The rear trigger functions as the regular hammer to fire the gun. The stock has a nice dark used tone to the walnut. This is a good looking gun all the way around.
