This is an original application made by a Confederate veteran so he could receive his Southern Cross of honor. The Southern Cross was given by the United Daughters of The Confederacy to the Confederate Veterans of the Civil War. In order to qualify you had to list your service and also have a current member to attest to your service. This one was filled out in 1901 for Corporal G.B. Durant who had served during the Civil War with the 7th South Carolina Cavalry. He says in the middle that he was discharged when Lee Surrendered at Appomattox. The paper has a pretty light green color that displays well. You see a lot more of the Crosses than you do these applications. And someone added the medallion portion of the medal to the lower left hand corner to enhance the display. Don't miss this one.
