Wonderful Albumen of a Civil War Infantry Officer with His Sword
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a great looking image. This is an original albumen size image of a Civil War soldier. The middle aged officer is in full standing view. He is wearing his single breasted frock style officer coat with the lieutenant stamps still visible on his shoulders. Around his waist, he sports the classic Civil War eagle sword belt with his holster on the side. In front of his, he rests his hands on the pommel of his foot officer sword. On the edge of the banister, you see his forage style hat with the infantry hunting horn insignia on the front. In the center of the horn, you see the single digit of the regimental number. You can't quite make it out but it is there. The photograph image itself measures 5-1/4th inches by 7-1/2 inches and is affixed to an 8 inch by 10 inch backing board. Along the bottom of the image it has the photographer marking that proudly reads "Photographed at the WHITEHURST GALLERY, Washington, D.C." The image is bordered in gilt and accompanied by a separate painted oval frame from the period. This piece displays beautifully. All it needs is some glass and you wall to hang it on. .
