This is one of the toughest to find of all Civil War era bayonets. It is the saber bayonet with the Snell pattern handle. According to Flayderman there were only 1,646 of these bayonets made at Harpers Ferry in 1855. You can tell their distinctive design from a mile away. They have the ring that is attached to the pommel of the handle that goes over the barrel. They also have the thumb twist screw on the handle guard hole that affixes the bayonet onto the end of the special designed Snell pattern barrel. The brass has a wonderful look all over. The blade has an attractive look and the end of the blade having some light pitting and is mentioned for exactness. The scabbard is accompanied by a fine original leather and brass scabbard. It has the leather body that is in pleasing shape with the brass drag and throat. You can tell that this one was used but well taken care of over the years. This is a wonderful very rare original Snell pattern saber bayonet with scabbard.
