This is a fine original model 1874 pattern cavalry bridle bit. This is the pattern known to collectors as the "Shoemaker" bit. They are very distinctive because of the large circular strap loop ends. The rest of the body looks very similar to the standard Civil War production bit. This one is 100% complete and has both of the bridle rosettes intact. On the end of the bit it has the crossbar as well as both of the rings intact. It has a couple of spots where it was broken and brazed to repair the breaks long ago. This is a very tough to find bit to start with and this one is in fine shape.
