Because of his service at Pea Ridge he was promoted to Brigadier General on March 12th 1862 and then to Major General on November 4th 1862. He was in charge of Defending Mobile until the end of the War. In 1868 he founded the Southern Historical Society. He died on January 11th 1900 and is buried in Fredericksburg. The autograph is on a hand written order from "Headquarters Maurys Division" with the date of November 1st 1862. He is authorizing the guards and pickets to allow a "Capt. Dreas" to pass through.
