MASSIVE! .75 Caliber Box Lock Flintlock Pistol by Thomas Gill of London
Click on an image to enlarge
This is the largest box lock pistol that I have ever been able to offer. It fires a massive .75 Caliber ball or as the English refer to the size, 12 Bore. The gun is quite large at 12 inches in overall size with the barrel that is full-length at 6-1/2 inches. The gun is in the original flintlock configuration. The mechanics of the lock are still functional. It is designed with the pretty and subtle scroll detail work around tang, breechblock, and triggerguard. On the left side of lockplate, it is signed "GILL" with "LONDON" on the right side. This would be the maker marking of the second Thomas Gill, a London gunmaker active from 1780 to his death in 1800. The grip of the gun is made of a single piece of dark wood. On the back of the grip, it has the original oval silver escutcheon. The last image is to give you an idea of the sized of the gun. It is lying beside a Civil War .44 caliber Remington Army Model Revolver. This is a big cool gun!
