Scarce 1862 Fort Smith Arkansas 50 Cent Note From M. Mayers & Bro.

Here is a tough to find note. This one was issued from Fort Smith City, Arkansas. This is a private company "Script" note that was issued by M. Mayers & Bro. It states that it was payable in multiple locations and is payable for the amount of 50 Cents. It has the printed date of issue of January 9th 1862. This is the final date observed for this issuer and it is printed on brown paper. Plate letter B is at lower left. The date is completely engraved. Three payables are across the top: Stirman & Dickson, Fayetteville; White & Hanley, Van Buren; F. H. Nash, Ft. Gibson. Along the bottom are Alexander & Allen, Sherman and J. M. Smoot, Denton, Texas. The red Mayers ink stamp is still partially visible on the face. The note is in well-worn condition and has the tape repairs to the reverse. It come sin an acid-free holder for display and preservation.
