Here is an original autograph of Thomas Bragg (1810-1872). Bragg was born in Warrenton, North Carolina on November 9th 1810. He served as the Governor of North Carolina before the Civil War. In November of 1861, Bragg served the Confederacy as Attorney general, replacing Judah P. Benjamin. He served in this position until March 18th 1862 when he resigned. The Civil War bankrupted Bragg but he rebuilt his law practice. He died on January 21st 1872 and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh, North Carolina. One interesting note about Thomas Bragg is that Confederate General Braxton Bragg was his younger brother. The autograph is accompanied by a printed biography of his service as well as a modern Xerox image of the General. The paper that the autograph is on is dated 1857. The paper measures 8-1/8th inches by 2-7/8ths inches in overall size. It is a fine piece of history!
