This is a great looking piece of Confederate currency. It is the original 1861 dated Confederate $5.00 note. In the center of the note it has likeness of Commerce seated on a bale of cotton. Down in the lower left hand corner is the sailor design. It was issued on September 2nd 1861 from Richmond. It is correctly hand signed and numbered in ink. This is the version listed as T-36 in Criswell's Confederate Currency book. The note is in nice circulated condition and comes in an acid-free holder for preservation and display. When you hold the note up to the light you can see the "X" slits in the paper. These are the marks where the Confederate Government took the note out of circulation. This is called "Cut Cancellation". The note comes in an acid free holder for display and circulation.
