Click on an image to enlarge
This is a fine original signature of Civil War Union General Benjamin F. Butler better known as "BEAST BUTLER". He received this nickname because of the brutal treatment he unleashed on the civilians of the City of New Orleans. It is on a nice railroad pass allowing a man to travel from Washington DC to Columbus, Ohio. On the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. The piece of paper measures 4 inches wide by 2 1/4 inch piece of paper and is nice and clear. He was from the state of Massachusetts and during the Civil War he served in several positions. This signature has the rank of Major General. Ironically Butler nominated Jefferson Davis for the U.S Presidency in 1860 on the Democratic ticket. He survived the Civil War and dies in 1893. The autograph is beautifully framed and matted in a wooden frame that measures 13 inches by 13 inches in overall size. It also has a printed biography of his service as well as an original Civil War envelope with the image of Butler in uniform. The paper that the autograph is on measures 3-1/4th inches by 3-3/4th inches in the matting. The note is in the general's own hand and reads "With many thanks an endorsement here will be a guarantee of Genuineness. Benj. F. Butler Mass." It is ready to hang on the wall of your relic room.
