This is a great displaying Civil War leather box that held the percussion caps for muskets, pistols or carbines. This one is in very nice shape and has a very attractive look. It has both of the sewn style belt loops intact on the back of the box. On the outer flap it has the closure tab intact as well as the brass finial intact. If you notice this is the style of outer flap that is known to collectors as the "Shield" style front with the applied closure tab. This style is generally earlier in production. The inner flap is nice and has both of the "ears" present on the sides. On the inner pocket it still has a small amount of the original the lamb's wool. The wool was added at the factory to help keep the caps from falling out. It also has the original vent pick intact as well. This is a nice displaying original classic Civil War percussion cap box.
