This is an original Civil War piece of currency from Confederate Alabama. This $3.00 note was issued by the Mechanics Aid Association of Mobile proudly printed across the left side of the note. The exact nature of the Mechanics Aid Association of Mobile is unknown at present although it was apparently chartered by the state legislature in 1861. Based on the name, it is assumed that this was a benevolent organization whose focus was assistance to mechanics in the city of Mobile. It does not appear in city business directories and was probably short-lived. The Deposit Bank was a smaller bank located in Odd Fellows Hall on Royal Street in 1861. A. Tabor was listed as President and Joel A. Roberts as Secretary (he signs this note as cashier). The bank was maiden by the anchor in the center. It is print dated from August 19th 1862. It is correctly hand signed in ink. These notes are printed on the front side and were left blank on the reverse. This process of only printing on the face of the note is known to collectors as the bill being "Uniface". The note is in well circulated condition and is 100% authentic in all regards. It has the overall size of the note measures 6-1/2 inches by 2-3/4th inches. It comes in an acid free holder for display and preservation.
