State of Georgia 50 Cent Note From The Wills Valley Railroad
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a Civil War note form Georgia that you don't often see. This is from the Wills Valley Railroad Company for the amount of 50 cents. This railroad was a small twenty-mile-long railroad, this line was chartered in 1852, with construction continuing from 1858 to 1862. The line's two locomotives and four cars spent most of the war leased to others. It did, however, survive the Civil War and, after the usual large number of mergers and consolidations, lives on today as part of the Norfolk Southern Railway. In the center of the note, it has the image of the passenger train with the smoke bellowing out of the stack. It has the printed date of April at 1862 in the lower center of the note. The note measures 4-3/4ths inches by 2-1/8th inches in size. It comes in an acid-free holder for display and preservation.
