Early Pattern Original Model 1863 Pattern Sharps Cavalry Carbine With Patchbox

This is a cool looking weapon! It is an original and classic Civil War Sharps cavalry carbine. This is the model 1863 and it is so marked on the top of the barrel near the frame. It also has the remnants of the Sharps Rifle Company maker mark and Hartford, Connecticut production location. The lockplate has the Sharps patent mark and dates that are still visible. The action catches on both of the 2 positions. It has the serial number of 82,294. This is within the Civil War production ranges. The barrel is full-length and has the original front sight intact and the rear sight is original as well. The bore of the gun has nice lands and grooves still clearly visible but it is as dark and dirty as a stovepipe. The stock is an attractive walnut with a well used but not abused look. The saddle ring bar is original and present as is the saddle ring. On the wood by the saddle ring you can still see the outlines of the inspector cartouches where the gun was approved for military use by the Government inspector. As you can see, this is the earlier pattern of the 1863 model Sharps carbine because it has the patchbox on the front of the stock. This is a desirable addition to an already cool gun. The gun is accompanied by some paperwork from the 1990's when the previous owner asked for a serial number search on the gun. It is noted that the serial number is a "Range Match" with other guns issued to the 10th Ohio cavalry. This means that guns close to the number were known to have been issued to the 10th Ohio but we do not know for sure about this one. This is a good looking Civil War 1863 model Sharps cavalry carbine that was used but not abused.
