Lincoln's Secretary of the Interior Caleb Smith of Indiana CDV & Autograph

Here is an excellent original signature of the Secretary of the Interior for the union during the Civil War, Caleb B. Smith (1808 -01864). Smith was from Indiana and during the Republican National Convention in 1860 he was promised a spot on Lincoln's cabinet if he could get Indiana's support. He served as Secretary of the Interior for Lincoln until December of 1862 when he resigned due to poor health. He served as a Federal judge in Indiana until he died in 1864. The autograph is beautifully framed and matted in a wooden frame that measures 15-1/2 inches by11-1/2 inches in overall size. It also has a printed biography of his service. Also in the frame, it has the CDV Image of Smith in a fine suit of clothes and a postal cover with the likeness of Smith. The paper that the autograph is on measures 3-1/2 inches by 1-1/2 inches in the matting. It is ready to hang on the wall of your relic room.
