Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 1862 Dated 50 Cent Note From The Summit County Bank

Here is a neat unissued bank note from Cuyohoga Falls, Ohio. This one was printed by the Summit County Bank in the small amount of 50 cents. This note is an excellent condition unissued specimen and such notes are referred to by collectors as a "Remainder". The intended purpose of this remainder was to help alleviate the lack of small change during the Civil War. It has the printed date of 1862 as well as the printed signature of W.A. Hanford payable at Summit County Bank for 50ยข. This store was managed by W.A. Hanford. Research by Wendell Wolka that appeared in Paper Money indicates that this merchant's name was Hanford, not Stanford as many had previously thought. This bank became the First National Bank of Cuyahoga Falls, charter number 378. The note has the pretty green ink and have the image of Lady Liberty beside the Union shield in the lower left hand corner. It measures 3-3/4ths inches by 2-1/8th inches in overall size. It comes in an acid-free holder for display and preservation.
