Double Autograph & CDV Image Confederate Governor of Virginia John Letcher

This is a very attractive original autograph document signed by the future Confederate Governor for the state of Virginia during the Civil War, John Letcher. John Letcher was born in Lexington, Virginia on March 29, 1813. He became a lawyer in the state of Virginia in 1839. He was a strong supporter of states rights and edited the Democratic "Valley Star" from 1839 until 1850. From 1851 until 1859 he represented the state of Virginia in the United States House of Representatives. In 1859 he was elected governor for the state of Virginia. In 1863 he ran for a seat in the Confederate Congress but was defeated after the war he was basically penniless but did his best to resume his law practice. From 1875 until 1877 he served as a member of the Virginia statehouse. He died on January 25, 1884 in his hometown of Lexington, Virginia. This document is dated June 24th 1860 and is commissioning four men to serve as justices of the peace for the 2nd district of Southampton County, Virginia. It also instructs that they will serve in this duty until August 1, 1864. The document is preprinted with fine black ink and has the blanks filled in using beautiful old Brown ink. The document measures 8 inches wide and is almost 10 inches tall. As you can see it has the beautiful applied seal of the great state of Virginia with the pale blue color. It is vividly signed by Governor Letcher. The autograph is beautifully framed and matted in a wooden
frame that measures 19 inches by 12 inches in overall size. It also has a printed
biography of his service. It also has an original CDV image of Letcher in a fine suit of clothes. Below his image it even has another autograph of the Governor. The paper that this autograph is on measures 2 inches by 1-1/4th inches in the matting. It is ready to hang on the wall of your relic room. This is a great pair of autographs and the CDV image from the famous Confederate Virginia Governor.
