Scarce Bank of Chambersburgh, Pennsylvania 25 Cent Note Dated 1862

Here is a tough to find note from Pennsylvania. This is a Civil War dated 25 bank note from the Bank of Chambersburgh in Pennsylvania. Originally operating as the unchartered Chambersburg Bank until 1814, the Bank of Chambersburg went on to become the National Bank of Chambersburgh in 1864. It is interesting to speculate how this note survived a large part of the town being burned down by Confederate forces on July 30, 1864 after the town refused to pay a ransom. This note has the black and pale red ink printing that gives it a pleasing look. On the left hand side, it has the image of the young boy in a sailor's uniform. It is hand signed and dated from December 16th 1862. The note is in circulated condition with some edge nips. It comes in an acid-free holder for display and preservation.
