Commercial Version of the Model 1832 Artillery Short Sword
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a sword that you seldom encounter. Upon 1st glance it looks like the standard US model 1832 foot artillery sword. When you look closer, you realize that the sword is well-made but completely unmarked with slight variations from the standard Ames manufactured sword you usually encounter. If you notice the handle is constructed of cast brass and is made with the rivets you find on the Ames made swords. The handle of the sword has the classic fish scale style design but is made without the droop wing Eagle on the very top. The construction of the crossguard is very similar to those made by the Ames Company as well. The sword measures 25-1/4th inches in overall length with the blade making up 19 of those inches. It is a well-crafted blade with the 3 Fullers design. This is a tough to find version of Civil War foot artillery sword.
